In a discussion on Wednesday, the candidates for governor of Oregon sparred over state financing for law enforcement and the police.
Democratic nominee Tina Kotek, Republican Christine Drazan, and independent Betsy Johnson are the contenders for governor of Oregon.
Kotek was the first to answer to a query regarding the necessity of funding law enforcement in order to fight crime.

“When people dial 911, they should feel safe and receive the appropriate assistance at the appropriate moment. Kotek declared, “I’ve always backed up our state police.”

The Democrat went on to say that she has always supported law enforcement and the police.

And we do require additional police. Increasing the amount of classes and trainings offered is one of the things the state can do, she added. For the benefit of our rural towns in particular, it is crucial that state police are present throughout the state.

Kotek’s remark was rebuffed by Drazan and Johnson, who both expressed surprise at her support for law enforcement.

Drazan responded, “Tina Kotek is the original candidate for defunding the police.” Even when rioters attacked a police station, she refused to back the police. I find it astounding that she would act and say as though she supports police enforcement.
