Manufacturing of Apple’s iPhone 14 closes the tech gap between China and India, according to a report

About two months after the new iPhone 14 is first made available from China, Apple intends to start producing it in India, closing the manufacturing gap between the two nations.

It was decided by Apple and Foxconn Technology Group, the main supplier of iPhones, that a simultaneous launch for the two nations was probably not going to happen this year.

After the first release in September, the first iPhone 14s from India will probably be finished in late October or November.

As China battles with COVID-19 lockdowns and U.S. sanctions, India has been marketing itself as a potential replacement for China in terms of iPhone manufacture. For India to have produced iPhones at the same rate as China would have been a major accomplishment.

Additionally, there was never an official plan for Apple and Foxconn to start production simultaneously in India this year, despite some employees’ wishes. According to Bloomberg, Apple intended to focus on setting up the China operations before figuring out the production in India.

In 2017, Apple’s partners started producing iPhones in India as part of a multi-year plan to build up manufacturing capabilities in the nation. Under its Make in India initiative, the Modi administration has provided financial incentives for the manufacture of technology.
