The cast of Saturday Night Live welcomes its first nonbinary performer.

The actor and comedian Molly Kearney will join the cast of Saturday Night Live in its upcoming 48th season as the show’s first nonbinary cast member.

In Amazon’s “A League of Their Own,” a remake of the 1992 film that has become a great hit with queer fans, Kearney, who is from Cleveland and prefers gender-neutral pronouns, played Fern Dannely.

Little Meatbrick would go NUTS over this information! On Instagram, where Kearney posts under the username meatbrickmolly, they discussed their A League of Their Own part in an article in August. I’m grateful to have met some incredibly amazing people and honored to be a part of @leagueonprime.

Kearney also appeared in The Mighty Ducks by Disney “and in 2019, Comedy Central chose them for “Up Next,” an annual showcase of comedians that Comedy Central chooses after an extensive search across the country.

Marcello Hernandez, an actor, writer, and comedian who was chosen as a Just for Laughs New Face of Comedy this year, Michael Longfellow, who has appeared on NBC’s Bring the Funny and Netflix’s Introducing… showcase, and Devon Walker, who was chosen for Comedy Central’s Up Next showcase in 2017 and has written for “Everything’s Trash” on Freeform and “Big Mouth,” will all join Kearney on the cast “with Netflix.

Saturday Night Live’s first episode of the new season will air on NBC on October 1.
